Mrs Kara Smith
Senior Psychologist, MAPS
Kara holds a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and a Master of Arts (Psychology) (Developmental Psychopathology). Kara is registered with AHPRA, is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS); and member of the Association of Psychologists in Developmental Disability (PsychDD). Kara is also an approved Supervisor for Provisionally Registered Psychologists and has provided professional development training on a range of topics to allied health professionals and other disciplines.
Kara has worked in a variety of settings including university, community, disability and private settings for the past 20 years. Kara is experienced in working with a wide variety of presentations including anxiety, depression, self-harm, grief & loss, developmental and complex trauma, attachment, eating disorders, developmental disabilities and significant challenging behaviour.
Kara has a particular interest in working with children, adolescents and their families who have cognitive, emotional, attachment, sensory and/or behavioural difficulties and employs a range of evidence- based therapies including Mindfulness, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Play Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Kara consults from our Moorebank rooms.
